Mixed Martial Arts fighter Kimbo Slice dead at 42

Professional mixed martial arts fighter Kevin Ferguson, also known as Kimbo Slice, 42, has died, Bellator MMA confirmed Monday night.

There is no word on the cause of death at this time.

“We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family,” Bellator president Scott Coker said in a statement, calling Slice “a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport.”

Slice was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons, according to Coral Springs police. They said no foul play was suspected, according to ESPN.

Ferguson was a YouTube sensation as a backyard brawler, turned MMA fighter and professional boxer. His career also included a stint in the Ultimate Fighting Championship were he went 1-1.

His career MMA record was 6-2, while his pro boxing record was 7-0.

Ferguson was scheduled for a July 16 fight versus James Thompson for Bellator 158 in London.
