Richmond, Va. — With all of the record temperatures around Christmas, it is no surprise that this December is one of the warmest on record. However, when combined with the above-normal days the rest of the month, it is the warmest December ever in Richmond since records began in 1880.
The average monthly temperature is derived by adding up all of the daily highs and lows, then dividing that number by the number of days in the month. In this case, the average monthly temperature so far is 52.1°. This beats the previous warmest of 51.1° from 1889.
The monthly rainfall as of Wednesday evening makes this December the eighth wettest on record. Additional rainfall into Thursday will push the total a bit higher, possibly causing the rank to change as well.
