RICHMOND, Va. -- A patient at McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond did not let physical challenges prevent him from giving back to the community. The veteran used his motorized gurney to approach a Richmond firefighter who was collecting money outside the hospital on Broad Rock Boulevard for the annual Fill the Boot campaign. The campaign raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
"A disabled vet rolled out of the hospital on his stomach on a on self propelled bed and put a donation in one of my guys Boot and thanked him for what we were doing. Powerful!" commented the man who took the photo and posted in on Facebook.
Firefighters all around Central Virginia are collecting money for muscle disease research. The fundraiser runs through Labor Day.
