RICHMOND, Va. — An update on the canine named Lucky Penny after she survived impact with a CSX train.
Penny was seriously injured and went to the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center. She needed the rest of her tail and back right leg removed.
She underwent a successful surgery and on Thursday was walking around, the veterinarian said.
Lucky Penny was found Monday beside the train tracks, wagging what was left of her tail when help arrived.
“We were like surely being hit by a train she’s going to be obliterated inside, we did x-rays of everything and there are no other breaks,” said Christie Chipps Peters, the Director of Richmond Animal Care and Control.
The dog had no tags. If no one comes forward to claim their Lucky Penny, she will be available for adoption starting Sunday, July 12.
The Richmond Animal Welfare Foundation is helping pay for her care, which has cost thousands of dollars. A donation can be madeby clicking here.
