RICHMOND, Va -- A man driving down Interstate 95 said a hard object smashed into his windshield and he said he believed someone threw it at his vehicle. The incident happened early Thursday morning as he drove up on the Maury Street overpass.

"Sounded like a gunshot, I didn't know what it was," Clark Meadows said. " I felt debris hit me in the face."

Meadows was able to maintain control of his car and pulled over at the next ramp. Whatever hit his car, it damaged not only the windshield, but also the roof. Meadows said he did not think the object was merely road debris.

"There were no cars in front of me," Meadows said. "I think this is an act that someone purposely did."

Linwood Jones, with Windshield Express, said it was not the first time someone has reported having their car hit with objects while driving on Interstate 95.

"Just had a lady come in with a sunroof that was smashed in and she said she was on 95 and didn't know what hit her," he said.

Meadows said Virginia State Police informed him they would patrol the area, but said that's all they could do for now.
