CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Poseidon Swimming and Burkwood Aquatic Club, both accomplished Virginia USA swim teams, announced plans to merge into one team, the teams announced via press release. The Burkwood Aquatic Club (BAC) will be known as Poseidon Swimming-Hanover following the transition finalizes on August 2.
Both teams have successful histories on a national level as well as in Virginia, according to the press release. Coaches for both swim teams believe that this will help produce successful results.
“The combination of our clubs makes perfect sense as we believe in the same athlete development philosophies and club leadership style,” said Poseidon Head Coach Ted Sallade. “Our teams have shared excellent chemistry between athletes and coaches for a long time.”
The merger will enhance the athletes opportunities by providing BAC’s swimmers an opportunity to train in long course meters, train inside during inclement weather and Poseidon’s swimmers an opportunity to train in an outdoor setting as well, the press release indicated.
“This will give all of our swimmers new and exciting opportunities in the swimming world,” said Nikki Deal, President of Burkwood Aquatic Club. “We look forward to working together in the community to become a team that strives for excellence among our swimmers, coaches and parents.”
Poseidon Swimming will continue to operate at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center in Chesterfield, while Poseidon Swimming-Hanover’s swimmers will continue to train at their location in Mechanicsville, the press release indicated.
