PETERSBURG, Va. — A female fawn less than a week old was found Sunday night, alone in the road, on Pleasants Lane in Petersburg.
A Petersburg police officer discovered the eight-pound fawn.
Though the fawn will need to be nursed back to health, she is expected to survive. Police turned her over to Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries. Next she will go to a “Wildlife Re-hab” individual who is licensed by the state and who will nurse the fawn to health.
She will then be released back into the wild in about four to six months.
Police said that she isn’t the first fawn found in the city. It happens about half a dozen times a year.
