CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- “The Donald” didn’t quite come right out and say he’s running for president during Friday night’s Richmond visit at the big-time Chesterfield County Republican Committee fund-raiser.
But he might as well have.
During his keynote speech under the catered big tent at the Lincoln-Reagan Gala held at the Highlands Country Club, Trump did much more than hammer away at the “incompetent” Obama administration.
His speech was more like a presidential campaign platform, with Trump spelling out specifics about how to fix a wide-variety of ills, including the Veteran’s Administration, social security, illegal immigration, terrorism and hostage situations.
“We have to do something to save our country,” he told me after his standing ovation speech. “(It’s) going to hell.”
When I told him it seemed like he was laying out a presidential platform, he said, “I think it’s a great platform.”
So the dream ticket, I asked him . . . Donald Trump and who? “It’s a little too early to think about that,” he said.
The big decision will be announced very soon he said, adding a pledge: “People will not be ripping off this country any longer. That I can promise you.”
Running for president is a big, tough, high pressure thing, I pointed out.
“I can handle it,” Donald Trump said.
Watch the video and see if you think it’s a safe bet that Trump will be running for president.
