RICHMOND, Va. — A local grocer is raising pay for its workers.
Ellwood Thompson’s local market announced Wednesday that the starting minimum wage is up to $10.10 an hour.
That’s $2.85 above the national minimum wage.
The company said in a release that they have 130 workers, most of who work full time with benefits, and they want them to better support their families.
The company said prices will not go up to pay for the wage increases.
“We hope that our employees our going to see that Ellwood Thompson has a really good chance to satisfy them as a long term home,” said Rick Hood, owner of the market.
