RICHMOND, Va. -- A father of three was shot to death as he and his father were standing in their front yard early Sunday morning on Richmond's Northside.
Richmond police responded to the 600 block of East Brookland Park Boulevard around midnight early Sunday.
The victim has been identified by police as 29-year-old Rolan Angaroo, according to a Richmond Police press release. Richmond Police Chief Alfred Durham arrived to the Northside crime scene and later confirmed the victim died at the scene. The Medical Examiner is determining the cause and manner of death.
“My son got killed out here last night by somebody down the street,” said Linval Angaroo, the victim’s father.
Angaroo said that he and his son were standing in their yard mid-conversation when a white car pulled up on Montvale Avenue and fired between 25 to 30 shots.
“He was standing right next to me to my right when he got shot... When the shots fired all three of us go to the floor, but he fell first," Angaroo said. "When we get back up he said, ‘I think I got shot.’ And I look over to my right and he was leaking.”
Angaroo said that what he saw was his worst nightmare.
“I just moved him down here three years ago trying to take him out of the gang in New York,” Angaroo said.
Angaroo is survived by two daughters and a five-year-old son.
Detectives are still trying to piece together what happened as the Angaroo family plans a funeral. The family is praying someone comes forward with answers.
“It’s painful, but guess I have to live with it -- I don`t have a choice. If anyone knows anything about it contact the police," Angaroo said.
