Community posts signs asking people to “stop pooping on bike path”

HAMPTON, Ill. -- Apparently, some people just don’t know any better. In the town of Hampton, Ill., signs have been added along a bike path reading, “Stop pooping on bike path.” And those signs are not intended for dogs and their dog owners.

According to a report from WITI, Scott McKay, a public works official, says the reason for the signs is because they've been finding poop on the bike path for the past two years -- and they believe it is coming from a human.

“It’s just pretty nasty to talk about,” said McKay. “Animals don’t carry toilet paper and then stuff it on the top.”

McKay says the person responsible leaves toilet paper on top of the feces. But what is really baffling is the reason why -- especially when there are public restrooms nearby.

“It’s gross and other people shouldn't have to use our path like that,” said McKay.

McKay added that hopefully, the newly posted signs will help the situation.
