HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- As a grandmother, Maxine Coats was in shock when she found out a Lakeside Elementary School student brought marijuana to school on Thursday.
Henrico Police said the girl was showing it to other students at the school when a teacher saw and reported it.
However, it was the child's grandma who was charged after the discovery.
"I don't think we have the real family values that we need to get back to," said one grandparent.
Juliet Baxten was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Police said Baxten came to the school after the incident and admitted that the drugs were hers.
CBS 6 went to Baxten's home Friday to get her side. Baxten did not want to comment and said it was between her family.
Still, the drug charge has some worried about the child's future.
"If grandma has marijuana or is doing drugs, that's where children learn," said one grandparent.
