NORFOLK, Va -- During one of the recent snowstorms, a Norfolk Public Works employee helped save a young woman from an attack.
On February 26th, Norfolk Public Works employee Terre Ebron started her 12-hour shift clearing streets from the overnight snowfall when she noticed the vehicle in front of her swerving erratically on Ballentine Blvd.
After the vehicle stopped on the front lawn of a residence, Ebron saw the male passenger, with a knife, attacking the young woman driving the vehicle. She parked the plow near the vehicle and the young woman inside jumped out and scrambled for safety underneath the truck. The assailant followed and continued to strike with the knife.
Immediately, Ebron used the truck radio to contact Operations offices for help. She also yelled at the assailant to stop and hollered police were on the way. The assailant ran off. He has been identified as 42-year-old Marlow Burton. Burton is currently a fugitive from justice and police are actively searching for him.
Ebron, with the help of other people nearby, helped the young woman until police and medical teams arrived. The 32-year-old woman was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Ebron has worked for the City of Norfolk for more than 29 years as an Equipment Operator II.
