HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- An unfortunate canine that fell through an icy pond was rescued by the Henrico Fire Department Monday morning. The call came in just before 10 a.m. Monday, for a canine who had wandered out onto a Glen Allen pond and fallen through the ice. Crews made it on scene and located the dog in a hole in the ice. The dog was able to keep his head above the water but could not get itself out of the ice. The dog was about 15-20 feet from the edge. Crews used a boat they found on the edge of the pond to rescue the dog.
The dog was brought to shore, dried off, and the owner took it away.
“Every year about 50% of fatalities related to frozen waters starts with someone going after a pet that has fallen through the ice,” said Capt. Rosenbaum, in a press release. “Please do not attempt to go out on the ice yourself."
