RICHMOND, Va. -- Reporter Jerrita Patterson and photographer Tyler Conta's banana prop, used to demonstrate the extreme cold ushered in with Monday's snowstorm, caught the attention of Anderson Cooper.

Wednesday's "The Ridiculist" segment was all about "melting icy hearts," and pointing out fun, quirky weather coverage by people putting "the snow to good use."

Before getting to the banana hammer Cooper talked about snow swimming in Massachusetts, Ithaca's tourism website urging visitor's to visit Key West instead, and Jim Cantor's "thunder snow" freakout.  Then he got to the banana hammer, which he called a "weather report with appeal."
