Despite the damage, Farm to Family owner sees ‘miracle’ in FarmStand’s destruction

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — No one was injured, but there is plenty to clean up after Saturday’s strong winter winds flipped Farm to Family‘s FarmStand on Mechaniscville Turnpike in eastern Henrico.

Farm to Family Market

“We feel very lucky that no one was hurt. It’s a miracle the stand didn’t blow into the highway, damage the church next door or hit our FarmBus,” Farm to Family’s Suzi Lilly said.  “It traveled about 50 feet back from Mechanicsville Turnpike, and landed 10 feet from the bus.”

Lilly said the non-profit FarmStand provides fresh, local food to a neighborhood that lacks market options.

“We were looking forward to a great summer with it, but now we’re not sure what our next step is, besides cleanup,” she said. “This thing is heavy, we’ll need some help!”
