RICHMOND, Va. -- The first annual "Shiver in the River" event was held Saturday. Locals decided to take a chilly dip in the James River, but only after they took part in a community clean-up.
Organizers say this time of year trash and recyclables are clearly visible on river banks and can harm nearby animals or foliage.
The clean-up started at historic Tredegar and spread to different locations.
Each person spent 60 minutes doing clean-up, which was followed by the fundraising jump.
