HENRICO, Va. —  Henrico Firefighters responded to a call for a structure fire in the oven on the Oreo line at the Mondelez (Nabisco) Factory off of South Laburnum Avenue, Tuesday night.

Responding crews found fire in an oven on the second floor and a vent stack leading to the roof.  Fire crews continued to the roof and found fire in the roof structure around the vent stack.

All employees were able to get out of the structure on their own.

The fire was stopped quickly, Captain Rosenbaum said.  The fire, called in at 8:10 p.m., was marked under control just before 9.

Because of the quick stop of the fire, only a portion of the factory is expected to be out of service a short period of time.

About half of the factory was able to return to work after the fire was marked under control.  The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

Were any of the just announced Red Velvet Oreo cookies destroyed in the fire? Will the launch of those chocolate OREO cookies with cream cheese flavored crème be stalled?

Doesn’t sound like it.

Capt. Rosenbaum confirmed that crackers were being made on the line at the time.
