Newtown, CT — Families of the two victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting have reportedly filed a lawsuit against Newtown and the school board.
The Newtown town clerk confirms that the town has been served a lawsuit.
This lawsuit comes two years after the shooting that killed 26 children and adults inside of Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012.
Adam Lanza shot his way into the school, and into two classrooms.
The 66-page lawsuit alleges that security measures at the school were not adequate.
The parents of Jesse Lewis and Noah Pozner have filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
The suit said that the school’s front door did not have security glass to protect against gunshots. It also said that classroom doors could only be locked from the outside, with keys, which left teachers and students at risk.
The lawsuit also alleges that a teacher in one of the two classrooms where students were killed was a substitute, didn’t have a key, and didn’t receive training on the security protocols.
Attorney Donald Papcsy said in a statement “We are hopeful that the town of Newtown’s elected and hired representatives will work with the families who have already suffered and will continue to suffer unimaginable loss to help resolve the matter in the most efficient and constructive way possible. As residents of the town we all either have or are going to have students in our Sandy Hook schools and we promote the idea of learning from the past and protecting our children in the future.”
The families are seeking unspecified damages in the lawsuit, which is expected to be filed in State Superior Court in Danbury in the coming weeks.
This is the second lawsuit that has been filed since the shooting. The first lawsuit was filed against the Bushmaster AR-15 that was reportedly used by Lanza.
Requests for comments from the Newtown town attorney and school board were not immediately returned, reported WFSB.
