KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – A hunter shot during the last day of deer hunting season in King William County is recovering in the hospital.
It happened Saturday just before 2:10 p.m. off Olde Footpath Road.
The shooting happened during the last hunt of the day when one guest hunter from Richmond was walking along a cutover with two members of a nearby hunt club, according to Lee Walker with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
When the 52-year-old Richmond man heard breaking limbs, he positioned himself and waited for the deer. Lee said that when he spotted movement, he fired a 12 gauge shotgu, and hit one of the other hunters.
A 41-year-old man from Hanover County was struck in his left and right leg.
The victim, who was MedFlighted to VCU Medical Center, is in critical but stable condition.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
