RICHMOND, Va. — A Caryown cupcake shop is doing something extraordinary to help ring in the new year and continue the holiday spirit of giving.
That’s because beginning Friday, Jan. 2, Carytown Cupcakes will begin a month-long “Pay It Forward” initiative by giving away free cupcakes.
“For the entire month of January, every day, several unsuspecting shoppers walking around Carytown will be rewarded a cupcake,” Carytown Cupcakes’ Dawn Schick said.
But if you’re awarded a free sweet treat, you’ll be asked to pay it forward. It could be as simple as holding open a door for a stranger — or buying someone you don’t know a cup of java — or maybe assisting a vertically challenged person reach an object on a high shelf in a grocery store.
You’ll be rewarded by watching your good deed transform someone’s day.
Recipients are simply asked to snap a picture and share their act of kindness on the Carytown Cupcakes Facebook page.Officials hope that will inspire their legion of cupcake fans to take action.
“There’s no time like the present to work on rebuilding our community — one thoughtful act at a time,” Schick said. “Let’s work on making 2015 even better than the year before.”
