CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – “Yes, it is official! We are thrilled! What an awesome surprise for Christmas!”
That was the reaction from India Lipton as she told CBS 6 that the state of Virginia has granted parental rights to her wife Shirley to the couple’s two-year-old son Dylan. The couple, who married in October, becomes the first in the Commonwealth to successfully adopt since same-sex marriage was legalized in Virginia.
Dylan, who was born 11-weeks prematurely on Valentine’s Day 2012, was in the news in October when CBS 6 reported about the child’s improving health.
