RICHMOND, Va. –Two Richmond Police officers spent part of their Christmas Eve delivering pizzas around Richmond. Officers David Woods and Richard Chappell handed out pizzas to the city’s homeless and other folks they encountered while on their beat in Richmond's East End.
"We just wanted to do something to give back to the community," Woods, a two-year veteran of the Richmond Police Department said. "With the reaction we got this year, we'll probably do it again next year."
Woods and his partner handed out 175 pizzas Tuesday and Wednesday.
The pizzas police delivered Tuesday were from Brunetti's Express on Route 360. The pizzas delivered on Christmas Eve came from Flames 231 in Shockoe Bottom.
Woods said something surprising happened when they tried to give more than one pizza box to some people.
"They gave the extra box back so we could give it to someone else," Woods said. "Everyone was really excited, laughing, having a good time."
