JAMES CITY COUNTY – Police arrested Surry County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerald Glen Poindexter Saturday and charged him with driving under the influence according to WTKR.

Units were initially called around 3:40 p.m. for a car accident involving an intoxicated driver at the Jamestown Ferry Dock, on the Surry side of the James River Ferry.

Poindexter’s car struck a curb while loading onto the ferry, according to Police.

Employees of the ferry tried to stop Poindexter’s car, but he kept going, hitting the car.

James City County Police met with Poindexter once the ferry arrived at the Jamestown dock.

Poindexter was arrested for driving under the influence and no driver’s license in possession.

No injuries have been reported at this time and only minor damages were caused to both vehicles.
