RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond teenager whose disappearance earlier this week sparked near immediate reaction on social media and inspired the hash tag #FindShayla has returned home safely.
Details surrounding the teen, identified on social media as 16-year-old Shayla Bennett, were not released by Richmond Police. Bennett’s mother, Laquetta Massey, would only say her daughter was home and she was fine.
Earlier in the week a message shared via social media, that appeared to be from Massey, indicated Bennett was seen getting into a stranger’s vehicle near a neighbor’s home. The message included a claim that someone had threaten to harm the teenager unless a ransom was paid.
When asked about the case, Richmond Police said Bennett was reported missing, officers took a report, investigated and Bennett was safely returned home last night.
