HUEYTOWN, Ala. -- An Alabama teen went on a robbery spree because of a failed diet, according to police.

Zachary Torrence, 18, was arrested in connection with robberies at four Birmingham-area Subway restaurants. The robberies happened over the course of four days.

The teen told police he robbed the Subway stores because he tried the "Jared Diet" but did not lose any weight. He said he wanted to get his money back.

The "Jared Diet" was part of a marketing campaign by the sandwich chain. It was based on the experience of Jared Fogle, who said he lost weight while eating Subway sandwiches.

Torrence was spotted by a witness at a Walmart. The witnessed noticed him wearing the same clothes from the robbery and called police, who arrested him without incident.

Torrence was in the Walmart shopping for a handgun holster.
