PETERSBURG, Va. — Elementary school students in Petersburg created 400 get well soon cards to be delivered to breast cancer patients at VCU Massey Cancer Center to help support Breast Cancer Awareness month.

“As we grow our students it’s important that they learn to give back and to show compassion, as well as support for others,” Robert E. Lee Elementary assistant principal Leslie Steele said in a statement.

A spokeswoman for Massey Cancer Center called the gesture an “an uplifting gift” for the patients.

Lee Elementary staff members wore pink outfits and students were encouraged to wear pink socks on “Think Pink Thursday.”
