RICHMOND, Va. — While Minnie Mouse, Strawberry Shortcake and bubble bee costumes remain readily available for little girls this Halloween, some parents and parenting experts are concerned that costumes continue to turn too sexy, too fast as little girls grow up. Would you let your little ones leave the home wearing any of these outfits?

“Halloween is becoming more and more sexualized,” parenting book author Jodi Gold told Pix11.com. “By making little girls sexy, we put too much emphasis on their exterior looks. What we’re doing is building a foundation for eating disorders and body image distortion.”

Some costume store owners countered they simply give customers what they want and added while some skirts may be shorter than before, society as a whole is changing.
