FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – A Franklin County man is facing some serious time behind bars for what officers said he had going on in his backyard.
Virginia ABC special agents and sheriff’s deputies were behind the bust, and they said Sammy Lee Scott was selling his homemade moonshine to underage customers.
Officers said they confiscated 40 gallons of the 49-year-old’s booze, destroyed his 50-gallon still and seized 300 gallons of live mash.
The illegal manufacture of alcohol is a Class 6 felony punishable with one to five years in jail, or jail up to one year and a fine of up to $2,500, either or both.
Agents said they were acting on a caller’s tip.
