American Reptiles at Maymont

Posted
and last updated

Maymont now has added five young American alligators to its collection of creatures at the Nature Center. The alligators are on display and are used to educate the public about the species. Since alligators live close to Virginia's southern border, Maymont's goal is to help their visitors understand  how climate change could expand the range of the alligator into Virginia. The new additions are one to two years old, measuring about eight to 30 inches long.

The Nature Center also has seahorses, a species native to the Chesapeake Bay as well as Otters, fish and other interesting creatures from the river.
