NORFOLK, Va. --A Norfolk man says he woke up to a real-life nightmare when he saw a burglar pointing a gun at his wife.
Billy Wood told WTKR that the suspect broke into his home Tuesday and demanded money before coming to the realization that he'd hit the wrong house.
Wood said that as he was about to go to sleep, he heard a noise so loud that he thought somebody had slammed their car into his house. Accordingly, the sprightly 74-year-old jumped up to check on his wife.
“So I got up to find out what had happened, and there he was standing in the den with my wife with a gun on her. He saw me and told me to come in, so I did,” Wood said.
Wood said the towering, heavy-set masked man had gotten inside by breaking down the back door.
The man told demanded that Wood and his wife open their safe.
“We don’t have a safe,” Wood explained. “We’re not rich and he kept saying it and she finally backed me up and said, 'We don’t have a safe.'”
That was when the man finally realized that he had hit the wrong house and took off.
Wood tried to come to see where the masked man was running, but the man spotted him. Wood said the man fired off a couple of shots and told him to get back inside.
Officials said that solving the case will be tough, since the suspect was wearing a mask.
