LOUISA COUNTY, Va. — The U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed an earthquake aftershock rattled Louisa County Friday afternoon.
The USGS posted that the 2.1 magnitude aftershock happened at 12:54 p.m. near Mineral.
“We felt it here in Mineral,” Pamela Taylor posted on the WTVR CBS 6 Facebook page. “[It] sounded like a train, and felt like kitchen floor was moving!”
“I am in King William, felt something and the dogs barked,” Robin Lippy added.
While the USGS did not report initially report the aftershock, CBS 6 meteorologist Mike Stone said something did appear on the seismograph.
In August 2011, a 5.8-magnitude quake centered in Mineral reduced historic buildings to rubble and was felt from the Carolinas to Canada. After the large earthquake struck, smaller aftershocks were reported on a fairly regular basis.
