Deputies hear child’s scream; find dogs standing over 4-year-old’s body

RIVERVIEW, Fla. -- An investigation is underway after a four-year-old boy was killed by two dogs in Riverview, Florida.

Bay News 9 reportsthat he child was visiting his uncle's house southeast of Tampa Saturday the attack happened.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said two deputies, who happened to be conducting a traffic stop near the home, heard the child's screams and discovered two dogs, they described as pit bulls, standing over Logan Shepard.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene around 10:30 p.m.

Investigators said the boy and his his mother had walked over to their aunt and uncle's house and that the boy's uncle had crated the two dogs before they arrived.

Deputies said Logan had been given some ice cream and was left sitting in the family room while the adults and Logan's 15-year-old cousin went into the master bedroom to talk.

When the adults heard screams, they realized that Logan was not in the house.

Animal services, who took the dogs away, said it was the first time they had been called to the home.

No charges had been filed as of 10 p.m. Sunday.
