SPARTANBURG, SC (WTVR) -- A South Carolina woman recently received a heartwarming surprise during her graduation.
Donna Shreve, who earned her high school GED at Spartanburg Community College, had someone very special escort her up to the stage Thursday night.
"Her getting her GED is a huge deal," Army specialist Brandon Shreve said.
Shreve served in Afghanistan last year and is now stationed in Germany. His mother had no clue that he was back in the states for her big day.
As the unsuspecting graduate waited to her diploma, she spotted her son, who was carrying a bouquet of roses. As she saw her son approach, the tears began to flow.
"As soon as I saw him, I just -- that was it," Donna Shreve said.
She said she often thought about his safety in while he was serving in Afghanistan.
"It was something that went through my mind all the time, but I couldn't worry myself with it," she said.
Brandon was excited that he pulled off the surprise.
"She had no clue whatsoever about it," he said.
