In the history of cinema, there have been enduring characters who have drawn record-shattering numbers of fans.
Harry Potter, of course. James Bond. The heroes and villains of Star Wars.
But when it comes to animated movie stars, the man in Shrek.
Jason Marks, a Richmond native (and graduate of Monacan High School), knows this better than perhaps anyone.
He’s playing the beloved ogre as Shrek the musical opens today (March 14 through April 27) at the Children’s Theater in Willow Lawn. He’s joined by Aly Wepplo as Princess Fiona and Ronnie Brown as Donkey.
We sat down with Jason as he got made up for one of the first of the 60 or so times he’ll become the singing and dancing Shrek. Watch the video to see how it’s done.
And why he believes in what Shrek is all about.
