HENRICO, Va. (WTVR)--Friday afternoon Henrico firefighters  found a body inside a vehicle, outside a home in the East End of the county.

Now they are opening the case as a death investigation.

Police tape now surrounds the single-family Cape Cod home in the 5100 block of Kemp Street, not far from Williamsburg Road.

First responders and police arrived on scene around 3 p.m. Friday after they received a call about a vehicle fire.

Crews extinguished the fire and discovered human remains inside. The fire was near the garage in the backyard of the home. The garage sustained damage.

Investigators are working to determine the age and gender of the remains. Online property records show that the home most recently belonged to a gentleman, who will not be named until police have been able to notify next of kin.

Henrico Forensics are on scene taking photos. They are waiting on the Medical Examiner to remove the body.

Neighbors are distraught and hoping that there is no foul play.
