HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Two women were charged after a weekend incident both inside and outside a West End restaurant.

Police were called to the Applebee’s along the 9600 block of West Broad Street Saturday about 4:25 p.m. to investigate a report of two intoxicated women.

Officers arrived to find Dawn Marie Ellyson, 41, of Henrico, attempting to drive out of the restaurant parking lot.

“Officers stopped the vehicle and found Ms. Ellyson to be driving impaired. Pills were found inside the vehicle,” Henrico Police spokeswoman Lt. Linda Toney confirmed.

Inside the vehicle, Ellyson’s friend Cheryl Walton and a two-year-old boy whose relationship to Ellyson was not made public in an effort to protect his identity.

During the course of their investigation, police officers learned Walton assaulted the child while they were all inside the restaurant.

Walton, 42, of Mechanicsville, is charged with strangulation, assault and being drunk in public.

The child suffered minor injuries.

Ellyson is charged with Child Endangerment, three DUIs five years, Drug Possession, Driving Outside of DUI Restrictions and having No Ignition Interlock.
