Teens blamed for destructive crime spree in Midlothian community

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WTVR)--There are mailbox mashers on the run in Midlothian.

Some neighbors in the Walton Park subdivision have been forced to visit the hardware store after vandals delivered infuriating blows to their property.

Chesterfield Police said dozens of mailboxes were obliterated in a short destructive spree along Old Country Lane and surrounding streets.

A disgusted Virginia Goin is the Walton Parks Homeowner Association president.

"I've never understood the enjoyment out of destroying someone else's property," Goin said.

Janet Garland's will have to replace her mailbox, and she blames the destruction on reckless teens looking for harmful kicks.

"Hopefully, they know who did it and they will be caught soon and to let them know we are watching," Garland said.

It's not just the damage left behind that angers neighbors. according to the post office mail carriers cannot deliver letters if there is no mailbox.

Goin said that this vandalism does not represent Walton Park.

She hopes those responsible are caught soon and they're forced to pay for the damages.
