CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - For the last several years, Lisa Scott-Derrah has kept an eye on a feral cat colony that has developed behind the Oxbridge Shopping Center in Chesterfield.
However, when she went to check on the cats Thursday afternoon she made a terrifying discovery.
"There were dead cats in the one box that had been shot. There was blood, I looked closely," said Scott-Derrah.
Other dead cats she found there, didn't appear to be shot, she said.
"It's just not right," said Mary Cary, who also checks up on the colony.
Cary and Scott-Derrah both called Chesterfield Animal Control about the cats.
When CBS 6 arrived Animal Control officers were still on scene, but could only say that they have opened an animal cruelty investigation.
However, sources told CBS 6 that officers did discover two dead cats.
"I'm holding my faith in law enforcement officers, that they will reach a conclusion and find who did this and punish them," said Cary.
