Church volunteers give back this Christmas

Posted

PETERSBURG, Va (WTVR) - Inside a nondescript building in downtown Petersburg, a group of local church volunteers spent Christmas helping the needy.

A hot meal, new clothing, and fellowship was given to those in need.

Hundreds of homeless and elderly living in local assisted living homes came out to the event organized by Shiloh Baptist Church.

"Not only is this what Christmas is about; this is what life is about," said Marcus Leggett, pastor of Shiloh Baptist.  "If we live life and don't give back to humanity, than what is our life worth?"

"Today has given me a lot of joy, a lot of joy in my heart," Margaret Yancey, who lives in an assisted living home in Petersburg, said.

This is the fourth year of the event, and organizers hope to expand it next Christmas.
