CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Walking down windy Robindale Road in Old Bon Air, fresh off his late night shift at Denny's, a man who asked CBS 6 to hide his identity was robbed at gunpoint, just 100 feet from his front door.
"I'm just a cook," the victim said. "I was walking my normal route. The car stops, two guys get out and demand money. They put a gun in my face. It was pretty fast. Then they drove off."
The two men put the Denny's cook face down on the pavement and pistol whipped him. A third suspect never got out of the car, according to a police report. All three men drove away.
"I never saw it coming," the victim said.
The robbers took the victim’s phone and $9.
"I’ve never really encountered any violence or shady characters here,” neighbor Laura Bodeman said. “It's surprising."
So surprised, Bodeman said she double-checked her doors Tuesday night before she went to bed.
"I made sure it was locked. The windows, too,” she said. “Something this close, you know, it scares you.”
The victim said he didn't know the men and the attack was random.
"I'm kind of stressed about walking home late at night especially until I get my new phone," he said.
