They are considered the best in the biz. And they are leaving – at the least the airwaves.

Bill Bevins, perennially the top-rated radio personality in metro Richmond, and his faithful sidekick of 13 years, Shelly Perkins,  tell CBS 6 that they haven’t renewed their Clear Channel contract and will be signing off Lite 98.1 on Friday, Dec. 20.

They declined to say, in an interview with Mark Holmberg, exactly why they’ve put in the resignations, but the notice came at the time they were to renew their contracts.

These two Hanover residents aren’t leaving Richmond though.

Bevins will have an expanded role with us at the station, and also work for an advertising agency.

Click on the video to hear what else they had to say about this chapter closing. While they're both nostalgic about leaving each other (six hours a day together!) and their fans, they also are looking forward to things they haven't been able to do.

Blevins is looking forward to pushing past those 3:30 mornings and sleeping in late. Perkins is looking forward to taking her kids to the bus stop and being a mom in a way she hasn't been able to do.

You can keep in touch with the duo on theirFacebook page.

Their last show is 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday.
