BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – A teacher in Buffalo, New York wrote a letter complaining about the hygiene of some of her students. The urgent notice was sent home with some pre-K students.
“Several children in pre-k ages three and four are coming to school, sometimes daily with soiled stained and dirty clothes,” the note read.
The grandmother of a student who received the letter said she was shocked to read the teacher calling out kids who gave off unpleasant smells.
“That’s not right. That’s not what we’re in school for. That could have been, hell, she could have called the parent on the phone, she could have had a meeting at the school face to face. I tried talking to the teacher about this and she didn’t want to hear nothing I had to say,” grandma said.
The school superintendent said all communication with parents should be appropriate, but would not speak specifically about this note. The letter was addressed at a recent school board meeting, but no action was taken.
