RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- A special ceremony was held at the Virginia War Memorial Tuesday in remembrance of Virginia airmen killed while serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.

A memorial plaque was dedicated to the fallen service members.

Organizers said aluminum from a Royal Canadian Air Force bomber that was shot down during the war was used to cast the Virginia state steal  and the Royal Canadian Air Force crest on the plaque.
