RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- The names of more than 38,000 people have been removed from the list of registered voters in Virginia.

The Democratic Party of Virginia filed a lawsuit against the State Board of Elections, the governor and attorney general Ken Cuccinelli after learning of their plans to remove as many as 57,000 names before the November election.

On Friday a judge rejected the challenge.

The Associated Press reported that a court filing Tuesday revealed the names were already removed.

Lawyers for the elections board said 11,000 names were kept on the rolls, which they argued showed that the reviews were conducted carefully.
