RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- Over a thousand people spent part of their Sunday walking for to raise awareness about lupus in Richmond.

Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease, which can damage any part of the body, that has no known cause or cure.

The Virginia, Maryland and D.C. chapter of the Lupus Foundation organized the walk at Richmond International Raceway. The walk was free but all donations went to the foundation.

Sunday’s walk was one of three major events the chapter of the Lupus Foundation holds across D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
