Judge OKs lawsuits accusing energy companies of cheating Va. landowners

Thousands of land owners in southwest Virginia may finally get money owed to them by energy companies.

A federal judg  has ruled that a handful of class action-lawsuits accusing energy companies of cheating landowners out of natural gas royalty payments can go forward.

More than $30 million dollars in disputed natural gas royalties are at stake. The money is currently being held in an escrow account.

Lawyers for the property owners say that sum is much lower than what is actually owed.
