Parents and teachers weigh in on next Richmond superintendent

Posted

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--Parents and employees in Richmond schools who want to express their opinion on the next superintendent are just about out of time.

The city held its fourth and final meeting tonight, where people could express their desires as to what kind of leader the next superintendent should be.

The small, yet vocal crowd at Huguenot High school told members of the search committee everything they want to see from Richmond’s next top teacher.

An 8th grade teacher we spoke with says she wants a superintendent focused on every child, from the “A” student to the possible dropout.

But she also wants parents to get more involved.

"I think it's a wonderful opportunity, and it can be beneficial,” Ausha Espiet, an 8th grade teacher at Thompson Middle School, said. “But it's still sad that you only have only 10 or so people when I'm sure thousands were invited to attend."

Espiet says she hopes Richmonders will personally seek out their school board members before the next meeting, which is October 21st.
