RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Be alert for dense fog this morning! Visibilities are down to a quarter-mile in many parts of our area.
A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. for northern and western Virginia, where widespread fog is reducing visibilities to less than a mile.
But even in central Virginia, visibilities are down to a quarter-mile in places like the Tri-Cities to Emporia and South Hill. The farther west of I-95 you go, the thicker the fog gets. Also, I’ve had reports this morning that the fog is “like a wall” when you move into it on the roads, passing from clear visibility into the fog area.
SAFE DRIVING TIPS IN FOG:
- Slow down!
- Allow extra space between you and surrounding vehicles.
- Turn down the radio so you can hear better what’s going on around you, including potential problems just ahead of you on the road.
- Keep your headlights on the low or regular beam setting. Do not use your high beams! That scatters off the fog droplets and makes it even harder to see in front of you.
