WATCH: Child buys wheels for injured dog

LEXINGTON, KY (WLEX) - An eight-year-old Kentucky boy raised money to buy his injured dog a wheelchair. Cacious was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy, a condition that impacts the spine.

"He fell down the whole set of stairs and the next day his feet were sort of dragging and we realized [what] had happened to him," eight-year-old Ryder said about his dog.

Ryder's mom knew the next step was to get the dog some wheels, so Ryder started selling key chains and magnets to raise the money it would take to get the wheelchair.

He raised $315 in a matter of days.

"Hopefully this will give him a lot more freedom and mobility and he'll be with us a lot longer," mom Lyssa McConathy said.

The McConathy family plans to donate the left over money to the Humane Society.
